Our 3rd graders have been studying Mexico and the Mexican culture for the past few months. For the month of December, they took a break from the regular lessons to learn about Mexican Christmas traditions. They spent most of their time learning about Mexico’s most popular tradition, Las Posadas. After spending last week preparing decorations and edible treats, their study culminated by recreating their own Las Posadas.
They walked from room to room asking, “Is there room at the inn?” and being turned away until finally they were given respite by Father Ligato and his staff at the church office building where parents had a festive Mexican feast waiting for them. In addition, two Spanish speaking seminarians from the Diocese of Albany were able to join the celebration and answer questions about Las Posadas in Mexico. Our celebration ended with a piñata!
