In the past few weeks, the 4th graders have been learning about electricity and power, and more recently, they have been learning about sources of renewable energy. In this engineering design challenge, students utilized a variety of different types of materials to build a windmill. A windmill is a way to take energy from moving air and convert it into mechanical and then electrical energy using a generator. There are many factors when designing a windmill, including height, size of the blades, angles of blades, shape of the blades, and choices about materials. Using a budget, students collaborated to purchase their materials, design their windmill, and build it.
